SOUTH BOUND BROOK — A 32-year-old man who fled the state when he was warned by an acquaintance about possible sexual assault charges was arrested by members of the Pennsylvania State Police.

Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson said Hector C. Suarez was charged with one count of first-degree aggravated sexual assault after a report was filed on Jan. 28 alleging that he had sexually assaulted a child under the age of 14.

Prosecutors said he knew his victim.

Charges were brought after a joint investigation by the South Bound Brook Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit.

Robertson said several efforts were made to find Suarez in Pennsylvania before he was entered into the National Crime Information Center database. He was arrested on Feb. 17 by Pennsylvania State Troopers after his car was spotted at a motel in Smithfield. The troopers continued to monitor the vehicle until he was spotted trying to escape out of the window of a motel room.

Suarez was taken to the Monroe County Correctional Facility pending extradition back to New Jersey.
