By now, we know that New Jersey rarely ranks well when put up against other states in most polls that we'd like to do well in. But every once in a while we're still surprised by one. For instance, do we have a good state flower? Do you even know the state flower? Well, even if you do, it turns out that our state flower apparently doesn't compare to the state flower of most other states

The rankings were based on the beauty of each state flower and the study was reported in Redbook, and at least according to them, we don't have a very beautiful state flower at all. Cue the booing now.

I'll be the first to admit that my memory needed a little refreshing on what the New Jersey state flower was. It's the Violet by the way, and it's actually very pretty. But evidently, it's not pretty enough.

As a matter of fact, it's among the bottom 3 state flowers in the entire country. The New Jersey state flower ranks as the 46th most beautiful state flower in the nation. That puts only 4 states behind us.

And here's the best part. Other states with the exact same state flower ranked higher than we did. Leave it to New Jersey, right? There are actually two states ahead of us on the list with the same state flower. We literally get no respect.

For the record, the report says the Forget-Me-Not of Alaska is America's most beautiful state flower.

I'd like to take a minute to say that the violet is a beautiful choice, and I'm not just sticking up for us (#46), I'm also sticking up for Wisconsin (#44), Rhode Island (#45) and  Illinois (#47).
