Wemrock Orchards in Freehold is another great local option!  They are tucked away at the end of a dirt road.   This secluded strawberry patch is out of a storybook. There’s no entrance fee; simply pay per pound for whatever you pick.  They also off a sweet ice cream parlor, general store and cafe to visit before you go.  Call 732-431-2688 to confirm crop availability before you visit.

Just some tips for picking...the best time of the day to harvest is in the morning after the dew is dried up and before the sun gets too hot for you or the berry.  You'll pay about 6 dollars for a quart of berries, bringing cash is helpful. When picking the berry you want to pick 1/2 inch of stem with the berry. Otherwise, if you just snap off the berry with no stem you are leaving an opening for bacteria. Make sure to pick only the deep fully red berries!

Sahl's Father and Son Farm is another great place to spend the day...they offer strawberries, blackberries and my favorite...sunflowers! Pick away!

Make plans for a getaway for the West Cape May Strawberry Festival! There are more strawberry farms listed here.
