Rashon A. Causey, 39, was found guilty of the murder of Shanai Marhsall, 37, in her Mount Holly home, plus burglary and weapons charges, according to the office of Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina.

Two days of deliberations preceded the verdict.

The attack took place on November 14, 2016, investigators said. Marshall lingered until the following day at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton.

Burlington and Mount Holly police conducted the investigation, under the lead of Major Crimes Unit Detective Anthony Mikulski.

In prepared comments, Coffina characterized the murder as the ultimate act of domestic violence.

"With October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I would like to remind anyone who is struggling in an abusive relationship that you are not alone - there is help available in Burlington County. I would also like to congratulate Assistant Prosecutor Courtney O'Brien and our trial team for getting justice for Shanai and her family. Our thoughts are with all of them today, and we hope this guilty verdict brings them some measure of comfort."

Anyone trapped in an abusive relationship can call Providence House's domestic violence hotline, 1-877-871-7551.
