Gregory Goumas, 18, was referred to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River after turning himself in August 23, according to police who charged him with eluding and hindering apprehension, and added that Goumas is the subject of traffic warrants adding up to more than $1,000 in Columbus Township.

According to authorities, Goumas sped across the bridge at about 2 AM on August 22, after Patrolman Chris Smith attempted to pull his 2015 blue Yamaha bike to a stop.

Smith ended the pursuit, but compiled the bike's registration data, and drove to Goumas's Joan Drive address in Beach Haven West. Goumas arrived, spotted Smith and other officers, and took off again. He showed up at headquarters the following day, police said.

Charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
