Monmouth University Press Release

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth University has released its 2022 football schedule, the first in which it will compete as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association.

The Hawks will face eight CAA teams with three non-conference opponents, all of which hail from the Patriot League.

“We are genuinely excited about our 2022 schedule,” said Monmouth Head Coach Kevin Callahan. “As a first-year member of the CAA, we know that each conference game will be extremely challenging. In addition to an outstanding conference schedule, we have non-conference games against some competitive regional programs. In all, there are nine teams on the 2022 schedule with NCAA FCS Playoff experience.”

Monmouth opens the season against CAA foe New Hampshire on Thursday, September 1 in Durham, NH. It will be the first meeting for the Hawks and Wildcats and the first time Monmouth has opened the fall season with a conference opponent since the 2001 season (Wagner). UNH is one of just four CAA opponents that the Hawks have never faced on the gridiron.

September 10, 2022 marks the ’22 home opener when the Hawks welcome Fordham to Kessler Stadium. The following week MU will host Georgetown, the third overall meeting between the Hawks and Hoyas and the first since 2004. The Hawks will hit the road for the first of consecutive road trips to Eastern Pennsylvania beginning with Villanova on September 24. The following Saturday, MU will face Lehigh in Bethlehem, PA to wrap up the non-conference portion of the schedule.

The Hawks are back home on October 8 for their 18th matchup against UAlbany. The Hawks and Great Danes were members of the Northeast Conference from 1998 until 2012. The teams split a pair of non-conference games in 2017 and 2019. The CAA schedule rolls on for the Hawks who will face Maine up in Orono on October 15 before returning home to host Rhode Island the following weekend. The Towson Tigers come to West Long Branch for the first time since 2002 and the fifth time overall. For the second time in program history, the Hawks will head to Delaware Stadium to face Delaware on November 5. The Blue Hens will host Monmouth for the first time since 2007, the only other meeting between the two programs separated by 120 miles.

Monmouth’s bye week comes in the second to last week of the year with Monmouth hosting former NEC foe Stony Brook on November 19, 2022 for Senior Day. The Hawks followed in the Seawolves’ footsteps from the NEC to the Big South before settling in the CAA. The two teams last met as non-conference opponents in 2007 up at LaValle Stadium on Long Island.

Details on game-times, homecoming, family weekend, and more are forthcoming.
