Middletown Police have confirmed the initial suspicion that the body found at Shadow Lake last Thursday is 62-year old resident Mary Silengo who had been missing since September 22.

The confirmation came in from the Middlesex County Medical Examiners Office.

Two fishermen saw the late Middletown resident while on the water last week and reported it to police who had searched near Shadow Lake and Navesink River areas prior to the discovery as Silengo lived in the Shadow Lake Village area.

Middletown Police conducted an extensive search which included the use of multiple tracking dogs, drones, boats, divers and a New Jersey State Police helicopter.

The police were assisted by the New Jersey State Police Missing Persons Unit, the New Jersey State Police Search and Rescue Unit, as well as volunteers with the Search and Rescue Council of New Jersey, Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office and the Middletown Fire Department.

Sadly, Mary Silengo passed away.

Details regarding the circumstances of her death have not been released.

“Obviously this is not the outcome we were hoping for. We are grateful for the assistance from the various agencies and organizations as well as the numerous volunteers from the Shadow Lake Village community that participated in the search for Ms. Silengo," Middletown Police Chief Craig Webber said in prepared remarks. “This thorough and comprehensive search of densely wooded areas and surrounding waterways was conducted over several days. While we are saddened and disappointed by this development, we are hopeful that it provides a sense of closure for the family. On behalf of the Middletown Police, I extend our heartfelt condolences to Ms. Silengo’s family.”

Mary was also a recent Breast Cancer Survivor, according to an Asbury Park Press Obituary, that says she leaves behind a longtime boyfriend, a brother, two sisters, a niece and a nephew.
