Middletown Police have announced the arrest of a man from the Bronx whose scheme to steal money from a township resident has now been foiled.

A woman called Middletown Police on Wednesday afternoon after getting a call from a man who said he was her grandson and needed money for bail.

Police alleviated her concerns and said it was just a scam but that is any specifics given or any more calls or even if someone came to her house, to call them again.

That's what happened at around 3:55 pm when 36-year old Oscal Novas Bastista showed up at her doorstep asking for the money.

She called police who were able to get there right away and make an arrest.

Middletown Police charged Novas Bastista with theft by deception and he was then brought to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold.
