MANCHESTER - The owner of a mobile home in the township miraculously escaped injury, but her dog could not, after flames enveloped and destroyed her dwelling early this morning.

Police did not identify the owner of the trailer in the Surf & Stream Campground pn Route 571, but said that first-responders arrived at about 4:50 AM to find flames enveloping the unit. Investigators do not consider the fire suspicious in nature.

Police speculated that the blaze began on the attached porch. The heat intensity on Lot 15 grew to the degree that it caused heat damage to two adjoining lots, authorities said.

The owner told firefighters that she wasn't certain if her Cocker Spaniel escaped, but authorities said that the ferocious flames barred them from performing an interior search.

The pet's remains were found after Manchester, Ridgeway and Lakewood firefighters squelched the flames.

Investigators deemed the unit uninhabitable. The owner is staying with friends at the campground, police said.

The origin and source are being traced. Manchester Police Detective Adam Emmons conducts the followup probe with members of the Ocean County Fire Marshal's Office and the Ocean County Sheriff's Crime Scene Investigations (CSI) unit.
