A Manchester Township woman is recovering from non-life threatening injuries after being hit by a car while walking across Route 37 near Commonwealth Boulevard in Sunday night around 6:30 pm.

Police say that a 2016 Kia Sportage was heading west on Route 37 and was stopped at a red traffic signal but as the light turned green the driver, 56-year old Kathy Piccoli of Lakehurst, hit the accelerator and struck 41-year old Bonnie Caso of Manchester.

Officers on the scene determined that Caso crossed the eastbound lanes of Route 37 within the crosswalk but then left the crosswalk and walked diagonally across the road into the westbound lanes.

During this time, the westbound traffic signal turned green, and the Kia traveled forward, striking Caso at a low speed within the intersection, causing her to fall to the ground.

She was assessed on scene and transported to Community Medical Center by Quality Medical Transport and MONOC Paramedics.

This crash investigation is ongoing and being conducted by Ptl. Jesse Hoydis of the Manchester Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section.
