There must be something about January 23rd when it comes to bad weather. And I do mean bad.  Of course yesterday we got slammed by a Nor’easter that resulted in power outages, flooding, wind damage and beach erosion.  On the same date last year it was a major blizzard that not only dumped between 16-24 inches of snow but also produced major flooding.

That one was dubbed “winter storm Jonas” and I guess we’re lucky yesterday brought us rain and not snow.  You might want to mark January 23rd on your calendar for next year and make sure you’re somewhere warm.

You might recall that back in the fall I did a segment on the JBJ Soul Kitchen which opened a second location on Hooper Avenue in Toms River last year.  The restaurant is part of the B.E.A.T. Center which offers food, job training and other resources to those who need a little help in moving their lives in the right direction.

The Soul Kitchen is best known for its connection to Jon Bon Jovi who along with his wife Dorothea opened their first community restaurant in Red Bank in 2011. It serves paying customers as well as those in-need of a nutritious hot meal and until recently it was only open for dinner Wednesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. -7 p.m. and a Sunday Brunch (11:30 p.m. -2 p.m).

However this month the Soul Kitchen in Toms River began offering lunch on Thursdays from 11:30 p.m. -1:30 p.m.   It’s a great way for the business community to not only enjoy a delicious meal and pay it forward but also find out how the restaurant and B.E.A.T. Center is helping the community. Try and plan on coming with some of your friends for lunch on a Thursday and for more on this unique restaurant visit jbjsoulkitchen.org.
