Longtime NJ Amtrak employee admits overtime fraud
EDISON — A former Amtrak worker admitted in court to overbilling the company for nearly 700 hours of overtime, costing the company more than $71,000.
Richard Vogel, 64, who supervised Amtrak workers, pleaded guilty to converting federal government funds to his own use.
Vogel worked for Amtrak from 1977 until retired in July 2016, according to U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman.
Vogel admitted that from November 2015 until June 2016, he fraudulently billed Amtrak for 41 regular hours and 685.75 overtime hours.
Vogel faces up to a year in prison and fines of up to $250,000, or twice the gain or loss from the offense, whichever is greater, Fishman said. As part of the plea agreement, Vogel will pay full restitution of $71,946.
