Long Branch Police are searching for clues following a reported carjacking on Wednesday night around 9:00 pm where the man who allegedly took the vehicle, crashed it and then took off on foot.

The carjacking took place on Norwood Avenue near Park Avenue when the victim told police a black male approached them and asked for directions outside their 2017 Infinity QX6 that was running in the driveway.

The victim moved to prevent him from entering the vehicle but the accused then lifted his sweatshirt to display a black semi-automatic handgun.

The victim backed off.

The suspect took the Infinity and drove into Ocean Township at a high rate of speed leading to him crashing the vehicle.

Hd then fled on foot and a perimeter was set up by Ocean Township, Long Branch and the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Department.

K-9 Hades and his handler were called to the scene and the Monmouth County drone was launched, but to no avail as the accused could not be found.

The vehicle was towed for forensic processing.

Anyone with information regarding this case please call Long Branch Police at 732-222-1000 and ask for Detective Verdadeiro.

Police are still trying to determine whether there is a link to the recent rash of high end vehicle burglaries in the Elberon and Deal areas, which were all left unlocked with the key fobs left inside.
