LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY Debuted on ABC this Day in 1976
Because of the very popular response they got as temporary characters on Happy Days, Garry Marshall, writer Mark Rothman, and ABC quickly put together a series for Laverne and Shirley. The program debuted this day in 1976. Truly a rarity, because of all the hype and buzz from Happy Days, the series (a true rarity) debuted at #1 in the ratings, and lasted until 1983 (despite quite a bit of much publicized turmoil behind the scenes). The show's theme song by Cyndi Grecco also became a hit. Have a milk and Pepsi, and see and hear it again below.
