Lakewood, NJ man receives sentence for stabbing another man to death in 2015

A Lakewood man has been sentenced to 16-years in New Jersey State Prison, on top of the 6-years he's spent in the Ocean County Jail, for the stabbing death of another Lakewood resident.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced the sentence Friday of 38-year old Darneil Reeves, which follows his previously entered guilty plea to Aggravated Manslaughter in connection to the murder of Hassan Parker in Lakewood on June 22, 2015.

Reeves will have to serve at least 85-percent of the next 16-years in prison before he could become eligible for parole.

On the day that Hassan Parker was stabbed, June 22, 2015, there were Lakewood Police Officers who were on off-duty road detail when they saw a vehicle crash into a telephone pole at the intersection of John Street and River Avenue in Lakewood.

Parker was able to get out of the vehicle and tell police heading towards him, that he had been stabbed, and then he collapsed.

Once Parker was in the ambulance with paramedics, he said that he was stabbed by Darnell Reeves.

Shortly after Parker was transported to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, he passed away from his injuries.

The investigation following Parker's death by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Lakewood Police Detective Bureau, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, confirmed the statement that Reeves did in fact stab Parker and in the chest of the parking lot of an apartment complex on Center Street.

At that point, Parker was able to get in his car and drive away but crashed into a telephone pole.

It took eight days, but eventually, Reeves surrendered to the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force with his attorney and has been in the Ocean County Jail, since that date.

Prosecutor Billhimer announced that Ocean County Executive Assistant Prosecutor Michelle Armstrong and Ocean County Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Kristin Pressman handled the case on behalf of the State.
