LAKEWOOD — A 21-year-old man has been hospitalized after police were called to his home on a report of a home invasion for the second day in a row.

Police on Saturday said the man's stories are "unfounded."

Police that the man called police about 3:15 a.m. Saturday to report that three armed men who he had seen on Friday had returned and shot into his home.

On Friday afternoon, a heavily armed police had descended on the neighborhood of Ocean Avenue and Cherry Street after the man told someone on the street about the supposed home invasion.

The man told the person that he had seen three armed men in his home after he opened his bedroom door. The man said he fled by jumping out of his second-floor window. He was seen "running for his life" down Ocean Avenue, police said Friday.

Authorities took the report seriously and mobilized local and county units to search the home. After making a "tactical entry," authorities found nothing Friday.

Authorities on Saturday again "found no evidence to support the allegation," Detective Lt. Gregory Staffordsmith said.

The man, whose name police did not release, was taken to a local hospital for a medical and psychological evaluation.

Staffordsmith said the man could face charges of creating a false public alarm, "however, right now our focus is getting him the medical/psychological attention he may need."
