Keyport senior linebacker Logan Blanks suffered a 'severe neck and spinal injury" during Saturday's Shore Conference Patriot Division game between Keyport and Lakewood, but is expected to make a full recovery, according to a Twitter post by Keyport's football program on Monday afternoon.

Blanks was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune where he underwent "two extensive multi-hour long surgeries", according to the statement. He has feeling and movement in his limbs and is "currently on a path to a full recovery from his injuries".

"Despite the terrifying injury, the optimistic recovery is large in part due to the doctors that worked on Logan but also possible because of the immediate care and handling that Logan received on the field from Athletic Trainer Kelly O'Donnell, Lakewood's athletic training staff and Keyport First Responders," the school said in the statement.

Blanks is the second Shore Conference football player to suffer a spinal injury this season. On Sept. 23, St. John Vianney senior Aaron Van Trease had to be airlifted from the Holmdel school after suffering his injury making a tackle in a game vs. Manasquan.

Keyport defeated Lakewood, 24-6, to improve to 4-2 on the season. Blanks is one of Keyport's top defensive players and through Saturday's game - where he made four tackles - had season totals of 33 tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

The Keyport Football Alumni Association has organized a fundraiser to help the Blanks Family with medical expenses. Those wishing to donate or share the fundraiser can do so at its GoFundMe page.
