Saying the Monmouth University football program has gone to another level in the last few years would be an understatement.  Over the last five seasons the Hawks have gone 38-14, won a pair of Big South championships and qualified for the NCAA FCS Playoffs three times.  In 2021 Monmouth placed 16 players on All-Big South teams including a record 11 who earned first team honors. Kevin Callahan, the only head coach in program history was named the FCS Region 2 Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association

As Callahan prepares for his 30th season on the sidelines in West Long Branch things will be very different.  Monmouth officially accepted an invitation to join the Colonial Athletic Association last week for all their sports except women’s bowling.  From a football standpoint Monmouth will be competing with the likes of Villanova, Elon, Rhode Island, Maine, Richmond, William & Mary, Delaware, Towson, New Hampshire, Albany and Stony Brook beginning this fall…quite a leap from the conference they are leaving.

In the middle of a harsh Jersey Shore winter I spoke with Callahan about the recent developments and the challenge that awaits the Hawks on the gridiron.
