Jackson woman shoots husband in the face, charged with murder

Antonia Ashford, 44, of Jackson is in the Ocean County Jail this morning after being arrested and charged with murdering her husband by shooting him in the face.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer and Jackson Police Chief Matthew Kunz announced the arrest of Antonia who is charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, late Monday night.
Jackson Police arrived Monday morning, around 2:15 am, to the home following a 9-1-1 call about a man who had been shot.
Officers on scene found the body of Roderick Ashford, 47, who was lying unresponsive on the floor with a gunshot wound to his face.
They tried to revive Ashford but he ended up passing away from his injuries at the scene.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson Township Police Department Detective Bureau, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit conducted a joint investigation and determined that Antonia Ashford pointed a handgun at Ashford and pulled the trigger, discharging the weapon and killing her husband.
She was arrested on Monday and brought to the Ocean County Jail, where she remains pending a detention hearing.
