Three Jackson Police Officers as well as three officers from the Ocean County Sheriff's Office combined their efforts to locate a missing person in a wooded area of town.

A missing persons report came in last Thursday around 3:41 pm which is when Officers Jody Benecke, Ryan Gladysz and Cassie Elbaum responded to a residence on Bethel Church Road.

They learned that a 69-year old man who suffered from multiple medical conditions ventured into the woods and had not been seen back in several hours.

Officers tried to call the man but then discovered that he left it in his vehicle parked in the driveway.

The Ocean County Sheriff’s Officers was then called and Sgt. Stark as well as officers Comeau and Grimes arrived on scene with a K-9 Unit and drone to join the search.

The drone checked the wooded area but couldn't locate the man due to the thickness of the brush and power lines in the area.

The K-9 track was unsuccessful on its first attempt.

Nearly five hours after the 69-year old man was reported missing officers found the man lying on his back in the mud which almost covered his face.

They were able to pull him from the mud and get him to a waiting Jackson First Aid unit where he was treated and then transported to an area hospital for further evaluation.
