Jackson man suffers multiple fractures after being hit by an SUV

A 30-year old Jackson man needed to be flown to an area hospital after being hit by an SUV on Wednesday afternoon around 2:00 pm.

Police say the driver got out of his own car on North New Prospect Road near Hyson Road to remove a trash can that had blown into the roadway.

As he was crossing to pick up the can, a 2001 Acura SUV being operated by a 27 year old Freehold man, hit the victim.

The driver stopped immediately after the crash, and along with his passenger and another passing motorist, rendered assistance to the victim and notified 911 of the incident.

The Jackson man was flown to a regional trauma center by MONOC medevac helicopter where he is being treated for multiple fractures and other serious injuries.

Police say that at this time, there are no indications that impairment or cell phone use played a role in the crash, and the driver continues to cooperate with investigators.

In addition to Patrol Officers and members of the Traffic Safety Unit, personnel from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office responded to the scene and are assisting with the investigation.

Fire District 3 Firefighters, Quality EMS personnel, and MONOC paramedics also responded to the scene.

This matter remains under investigation by Police Officers Brad Reider and Joseph Candido of the Jackson Police Department, and Detective Anthony Carrington of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
