The 9 Things You’ll Miss Most After Moving Out of New Jersey
Sure, New Jersey can be an aggravating state, but no matter how badly you say you want to leave, there's no place else like it on Earth.
Just ask people who spent decades here and then, for whatever reason, moved somewhere else.
Yes, we have insane traffic, "colorful" politicians, massive tax bills, huge crowds, and whatnot, but on the flip side, you never hear anyone bragging about how good the pizza is in Kansas.
I recently stumbled across a Facebook post where people who left the Garden State were sharing what they miss most about living here and some of the answers were quite surprising.
So if you keep saying you can't wait to get out of here, this is what you'll likely be missing:
1. ShopRite
Quite a few people say they miss running into ShopRite.
While other parts of the region have amazing supermarket chains like Publix, Meijer, and H-E-B, there's nothing like ShopRite. Walk in and you'll instantly feel like you're in New Jersey.
2. Beaches
Sure, they get packed in the summer and you have to pay to access many of them, but going to the beach or "down the shore" in New Jersey is one of the most unique experiences you'll miss if you move away.
3. Pizza
As we previously mentioned, no one ever brags about how good the pizza is in Kansas. Jersey pizza is in a class all by itself.
Don't believe me? Ask a group of people what the best pizza is in New Jersey and sit back and watch what could turn into an hour-long argument.
Whether it's from the boardwalk or a great local mom-and-pop place, move away and you'll be dreaming of a slice.
4. Boardwalks
Have you ever gone on vacation and visited a "boardwalk" in a town outside of New Jersey? They usually look and feel fake, manufactured, or overly corporate.
Not around here -- boardwalks up and down the Jersey Shore are the real deal.
5. Wawa
Just as people who move out of New Jersey miss ShopRite, they also say they miss Wawa.
We often take for granted the ability to get a good cup of coffee at 5 AM as you are going to work -- or the ability to grab a hoagie at 5 AM after a night of excessive partying.
Hangover or overworked, Wawa is always there when you need it.
6. Food, In General
While we've already covered pizza, we're going to lump a lot of remaining food topics into one heading here. You see, we're spoiled in New Jersey.
Move away from the Garden State and you're going to miss the ability to get a hoagie/sub like this...
...or being able to walk into a decades-old bakery to buy an 18,000-calorie pie, a loaf of crusty bread, or even pork roll on a bagel...
...or park at practically any strip mall or shopping center and have available to you any number of damn good restaurants covering any type of food you can think of.
7. Diners
One thing we can't lump into a big "food" category is diners. What would New Jersey be without diners?
Consider this: it's easy to find a Waffle House in every other part of the country except New Jersey. Why? Many believe they wouldn't be able to compete with all of the 24/7 diners here.
Move away and you'll be wishing you had a book-long diner menu in front of you...
8. Jersey Fresh Produce
What's better than visiting a farm stand on the side of the road in New Jersey and stocking up on all kinds of fruits and veggies? Not much...
9. The People
Depart the Garden State and you're going to miss that Jersey attitude. You might not think so, but you will.
Not that we are all loud and boisterous, but let's be real: if you ask someone in New Jersey a question, you're probably going to get an honest answer, whether you want it or not.
Meanwhile, on the flip side, those getting ready to move to the great Garden State might be in for a bit of a culture shock...
