Atlantic City, NJ, Police Promotions & Heroic Ocean Rescue

The Atlantic City, New Jersey Police Department has made five significant promotions.

Separately, we have learned about a heroic ocean water rescue, (that took place last night) whereby Atlantic City police officers went into the Atlantic Ocean to save a life.

Recent promotions were made to the ranks of deputy chief, lieutenant and sergeant.

The City of Atlantic City Released The Following Statement

On July 1, 2025, a promotion ceremony was held in the Henry E. "Hank" Tyner Memorial Council Chambers at City Hall.

Mayor Marty Small, Sr. administered the oath of office. The promoted supervisors are filling the positions from recent retirements. The ACPD congratulates all of the newly promoted and their families on this special accomplishment.

Heroic Atlantic City Police Ocean Rescue

Atlantic City Police Officers made an ocean rescue during the 6:00 p.m. hour on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

Details remain sketchy, as there has not yet been an official release of information regarding this heroic and meritorious conduct.

However, we have confirmed the following:

An ocean rescue, involving Atlantic City Police Officers did take place, across from Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall.

Atlantic City Police Sergeant Jon Walsh was the lead person, along with at least one other police officer.

These initial facts were shared with us by Atlantic City Councilman George Tibbitt and an Atlantic City Police Superior Officer that I spoke with.

This is a developing story. We will provide an update as soon as we receive additional information from the Atlantic City Police Department.
