An Atlantic City man is headed to prison for a stabbing that happened during the summer of 2023.

On Friday, 40-year-old Tyler Smith was sentenced to 15 years in state prison on first-degree attempted murder and first-degree bias intimidation charges.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office says on July 3rd, 2023, the Atlantic City Police Department responded to the 1600 block of Adriatic Avenue for reports of a man who had been stabbed in his neck.

That victim, an 18-year-old man from Egg Harbor Township, was taken to an area hospital for treatment and later released.

The victim told cops that he arrived in the area of Stanley Holmes Village with a friend when he was approached by an unknown man, later identified as Smith. Smith said, “Why you keep bringing these white people around here?” before stabbing the victim.

Police were able to identify Smith as the suspect from surveillance footage, which captured the incident, in addition to a wallet containing his driver's license that was left at the scene.

On September 12th, Smith pleaded guilty to the aforementioned charges.

He will be required to serve almost 13 years of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
