The Halloween Holiday season is well-known for candy, costumes, and horror movies. Those who love this Fall seasonal holiday will indulge in all three during the month of October.

Every year, millions of people go to the theaters to watch Horror movies. Whether they go for the thrills, special effects, or psychological element, the fictional depiction of people facing their fears has become a cultural phenomenon.

But once the movie is over, everyone has paranoias, fears, and phobias that they deal with. The research team at Casino.ca surveyed over 3,000 people across the United States to find out what what are American's biggest fears.

What Are New Jersey's Residents Biggest Fears?

The Casino.ca researchers found that the average American thinks about their biggest fear around 4 times a week and the number one most common fear in the United States is Death.

The fear of Death was the biggest fear in 17 states and 36 percent of those surveyed may have been influenced by watching horror movies like Final Destination.

The second biggest fear for Americans surveyed is heights, with 17 percent of those surveyed and the biggest fear in seven states. Snakes are the third biggest fear in the United States with 12.8 percent of those surveyed.

But of course, New Jersey has to be different.  Just like how NJ's favorite Halloween costume is different than most Americans, the residents of The Garden State's biggest fear is not like the rest of the United States.

New Jersey's number one fear is Enclosed Spaces, and the average NJ resident thinks about it three times a week.  Also, if offered $1,000 to face their fear of Enclosed Spaces, 37% said, "No way," while 34% said they would only do it if their safety was guaranteed.

New Jersey is one of only four states whose biggest fear is Enclosed Spaces; the other three are Oregon, Idaho, and Iowa. According to surveyed NJ residents, visiting a graveyard at night is the scariest activity.
