New Jersey really, really loves the concept of a sleep divorce.

Gwyneth Paltrow publicly pronounced she and her husband slept in separate beds for more than a year after they first got married.

Perhaps THAT proclamation, along with all things GOOP, spurred a trend in the U.S. that now sees more and more couples sleeping apart.

And it's because they want it that way.

I come from a long line of couch-sleepers. I count myself as one. It's not that I don't WANT to be in bed with my spouse, I just want to get some SLEEP!

One of the hardest parts of cohabitating for me was the chronic loss of sleep. He snores or I snore or the tossing and turning. There were many factors.

So, I understand why more and more couples are choosing to sleep apart Ozzie & Harriet style (Google it if you don't get the reference, lol).

Yes, it's natural to want to sleep in the same bed as your significant other, but not of you're not getting any. Sleep, that is. Isn't it more important to be RESTED so you have more energy to be a better partner during waking hours?

The sleep experts at MattressNextDay reportedly asked Americans how often, if ever, they've slept in a separate room from their partners and the data found that 32 percent are currently sleeping apart.

In New Jersey, that statistics (via statista.com) are even WORSE. 39% of Garden Staters, 2 out of every 5, have sleep divorced!

That makes us third in the nation behind Georgia and New York.
