Cape May Co., NJ Mother Officially Charged in Death of Infant, Admits Drinking
A Cape May County, New Jersey woman, reportedly drunk at the time of the death of her infant son, has been charged with manslaughter.
In June of 2023, police in Lower Township were called to the Villas home of 29-year-old Michelle R. Stanton.
There they found an unresponsive six month old Christian Carty, Stanton's son. The infant was taken for medical treatment at Cape Regional Medical Center in Cape May Court House where he was pronounced dead.
Villas, NJ Woman Was Drunk, Slept While Infant Son Suffocated to Death, Police Say
NJ.com reports Stanton confessed to Lower Twp. Police that she'd downed more than a dozen mini bottles of alcohol the day Christian died. He reportedly suffocated to death after being trapped between the mattress and the wall of a bedroom inside the Wilde Avenue home, according to court records.
Stanton reportedly slept through the entire incident.
Mother Charged with Manslaughter in Cape May County, NJ After Baby Dies
On Friday, May 10, 2024, Cape May County Prosecutor's Office announced the arrest of the 29-year-old mother. Authorities believe Stanton was responsible for her child's death. She has been officially charged with 2nd-degree Manslaughter and 2nd-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, according to CMCPO on Facebook, and faces up to 10 years in prison.
