The New Jersey State Police has issued a public alert regarding the escape of Nicholas Voutsas, a 25-year-old male, described as a Tier-2, repetitive compulsive sex offender.
According to the NJ State Police Sex Offender Registry,
Tier 3 offenders pose a relatively high risk to re-offend which make them the highest risk.
Tier 2 offenders pose a moderate risk to re-offend, and Tier 1 offenders pose a low risk to the community.

Voutsas escaped from custody on Thursday, January 30, at approximately 9:00 AM.
He had been in transit in a medical transport van operated by the New Jersey Department of Health.
The van was en route to University Hospital in Newark, Essex County when the escape occurred.
He is described as a 6-foot-tall man weighing approximately 260 pounds, with brown hair, blue eyes, and a mole on his right cheek.
He was last seen near University Hospital, located at South Orange Avenue and Bergen Street in Newark.
Nicholas Voutsas is classified as a Tier 2 sex offender, a designation typically assigned to those who have committed serious sexual offenses, including crimes against minors or multiple instances of sexual misconduct.
His criminal history is considered to be repetitive and compulsive, which further elevates the danger he poses to the community.
Specifics of Voutsas' violations have not been released.
