Popular South Jersey Pizza Joint Closes Doors, Teases Big Move

A popular South Jersey pizza restaurant chain has closed one of its three restaurants -- but hopes to reopen shortly in a new, bigger location.

Costello's Pizzeria and Wings, an extremely popular spot in Smithville Village, made an abrupt announcement on Friday that the weekend would be its last at the Village Greene.

Costello's Pizza Smithville Closes...For Now

Costello's Pizzeria and Wings, located at 615 Moss Mill Road, posted on Facebook on Friday, saying its Historic Smithville location would be closing for good on Sunday, January 4th.

Costello’s has two other locations, at 421 Chris Gaupp Dr. in Galloway Township and 30 N. White Horse Pike in Hammonton.

Costello's Hopes to Have New Location Open Soon

Costello's teased about the location of its new restaurant, saying, " Don’t worry… we won’t be far away. See if you can guess where we are headed?!?!? Once you make the guess, we’ll provide you with plenty of updates!"

A worker I spoke with on the phone Sunday at Costello's confirmed they would be closing the Smithville Village store for good at the end of the day, but gave a different response when I asked why they were keeping the location secret.

"We don't know where it's going to be yet, but hopefully it will be in Smithville."

The Costello's worker said the pizza chain hoped to have the store up and operational "by the Super Bowl".

As to why Costello's decided to close the longtime Village Greene store, owners said it was all about space.
