Officers with the Little Egg Harbor Township Police Department took some time Tuesday to visit a young boy with a rare cancer diagnosis.

In a post on the Little Egg Harbor/Tuckerton Police Benevolent Association Facebook page, four police officers are seen with 9-year-old Chase, with a caption that reads, "On behalf of PBA 295, we stand behind Chase in his fight against cancer. Keep fighting, you got this buddy".

Young Tuckerton Boy Battles Rare Type of Cancer

Late in 2024, Chase was diagnosed with metastatic stage 4 rhabdomyosarcoma.

Rhabdomyosarcoma is a cancerous tumor in the soft tissues of the body, including the muscles, tendons, and connective tissues.

Only about 350 American children are diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma each year. The disease mostly affects kids under the age of 10.

According to the Ashley Lauren Foundation, a Jersey non-profit that helps children with cancer, his doctors are still deciding what Chase's treatment plan will be, but say he is facing multiple round of chemo, followed by proton radiation and then, perhaps, more chemotherapy.

Chase Made It Home For Christmas

Here's a sweet part of this story.

With Chase's parents and grandparents busy keeping him company him at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and preparing for his homecoming just days before Christmas, they needed some gifts for Chase or his sister Bella and help replacing some damaged flooring in Chase's bedroom.

The Ashley Lauren Foundation posted about it on Facebook and the lots of people came forward to help with gifts for the kids.

A local flooring company stepped up with help. too.

Recently, we put out an ask to the community for one of our newly diagnosed children, rhabdomyosarcoma warrior Chase, who’s grandparents requested new flooring in his bedroom due to extensive damage.
Glenn Scher, owner of Carpets To Go graciously donated to move all the bedroom furniture, rip up the old flooring, donate all flooring and shoe moldings, install the flooring, and dispose of the old carpet.
What a lovely owner who saw a need and didn’t think twice to help one of our families. In the words of Glen, “It’s not about being nice. It’s about being human.”
If you would like to make a donation for Chase, Venmo Monica Vermeulen @TheAshleyLaurenFoundation, pay securely on their website, or send a check to their office. Be sure to indicate "For Chase" with your donation.
