Are we really that bad? Apparently so. New Jersey ranked in the top ten states with the worst drivers in the country.

We're ranked the 4th worst state for driving in this specific survey. NUMBER FOUR. I'm offended. I hear that joke everywhere I go. Quite seriously. I've got lots of friends and family that live in Philadelphia and they say they can't STAND driving in New Jersey because we "dOn'T KnOw hOw tO dRiVe."

Joke's on them because I HATE driving in the city. Honestly, it gives me so much anxiety even in spite of the fact that I went to school there for a short time. I know my way around it well, but people are NUTS behind the wheel.... just my opinion.

New Jersey Residents Can't Drive Very Well

It may be a bit dated, but the survey was conducted by Quote Wizard and ranks the worst drivers by state. The top 5 are as follows:

  • Wyoming
  • Virginia
  • Colorado
  • New Jersey
  • South Dakota

The rankings in this survey are determined by the number of reported accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs, and citations. So, yeah, NJ people might have a bit of a heavy foot. I'll give you that one. I can almost bet that we'd rank near the top spot on a defensive driving survey, though. Maybe people think we're crazy drivers because we actually know HOW TO MANEUVER in traffic. I can't tell you how many times I've driven out of state only to almost be ran off the road by someone FOR NO REASON.

We have a lot of crazy traffic patterns in NJ, so for people unsure of how to navigate them, I can understand why they may have an issue with how we drive. Other than that, I think we've got pretty good driver in this state. According to Quote Wizard, my opinion is overruled.
