As I was walking the hallways listening to 92.7 WOBM it got me thinking about what are my favorite Christmas songs so I decided to take a shot.  It’s not easy when you take into consideration many of the songs have been recorded by multiple artists so you have to come up with the version you like best. Plus to be honest I probably have left some out that I simply forgot about but here are 10 favorites in no particular order.

  • “The Christmas Song” by Nat King Cole

A 1946 classic recorded by the one and only

  • “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey

An up-tempo feel-good song which when I hear for the first time lets me know the holiday season is truly here.

  • “The Little Drummer Boy” by Bing Crosby & David Bowie

Also referred to as “Peace on Earth” the song was recorded in 1977 for

Crosby’s TV special just a month before he died.

  • “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town” by Bruce Springsteen.

Love Bruce’s version of this holiday classic.

  • “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” by Judy Garland 79 years old and still great.
  • “Last Christmas” by WHAM

Originally released in 1984 it did not become a hit until 2017.

  • “Wonderful Christmastime” by Paul McCartney

Upbeat and light and perfect for the holiday season.

  • “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” by Darlene Love

Considered by some one of the best rock and roll holiday songs of all time.

  • “Silent Night” and “White Christmas” by Bing Crosby

Simply classics and all these years later I still get chills when I hear them.

As for my least favorite…”The Christmas Shoes,” “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus,” “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” and “Dominick the Donkey” are all on the list.

25 Christmas songs performed by NJ artists

If you celebrate Christmas, the next month of your life is likely going to be consumed with shopping for gifts, retrieving a tree, decorating the house, and going out on adventures to see elaborate light displays.

The one thing that you must have at the ready for all of these scenarios is Christmas music.

Since a lot of the songs you hear tend to get repetitive this time of year, why not pay homage to some of the great singers, bands, and musicians that make New Jersey's music history so rich.
