Popular Retailer Will Close for the Second Year on Thanksgiving Day in New Jersey
2024 is zooming by, holiday season is almost here! Retailers adapted post-Covid and major stores now close on Thanksgiving for family time.
Is 2024 flying by for you? It feels that way to me. The days are starting to get shorter and of course in stores Halloween and Christmas stuff is out already and it shows, the holiday season is coming way to fast.
The holiday season in 2020 with the Covid-19 pandemic, retailers approached the holiday shopping a little bit differently. Before 2020 all the big box stores were open on Thanksgiving Day. We were shopping way before Black Friday sales on Thanksgiving Day with most of their sales starting between 5 pm and 6 pm.
In 2020 it was for the safety of their employees and shoppers that everything was closed on Thanksgiving Day and it was wonderful that everyone could spend time with their families on this special day.

Ever since then, most stores are closed on Thanksgiving Day giving their employees the day to spend with family and friends.
Many major retailers Target, Walmart, Amazon, and Best Buy have their fall sales event happening in the next couple of weeks, you could start your holiday shopping even earlier than Thanksgiving. Others are still looking for the deals on Black Friday with big sales.
What Store Will Definitely Be Closed on Thanksgiving Day in New Jersey?
Walgreens recently announced that they plan to close almost ALL of their stores, including locations in New Jersey.
As recent as last year, they were still one of the retailers that were open on Thanksgiving Day for that last minute buy on the holiday, not anymore.
Walgreens announced this week: "This is just one of the ways we’re acknowledging the dedication of our store team members, pharmacists and pharmacy techs who tirelessly deliver incredible service and patient care every single day. We heard incredible feedback from team members about their Thanksgiving holiday last year, so we are excited to extend that tradition once again for them to take a much-deserved break."
" A much deserved break" I totally agree.
Hopefully we will hear from other retailers that will be announcing they will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.
