The reminders as most of us know it that summer is over are everywhere.  Pictures on Facebook of the first day of school, getting behind a school bus, comfortable weather, traffic, getting on a somewhat empty beach without a badge and more.  The calendar might not say so but it’s a new season although “local summer” has become a bigger thing each year.

For those who have followed me over the years you know that summer is my favorite time of year because my happy place is the North Avenue beach in Seaside Park.  For the first time since 2021 my summer trips to the beach were not limited because of a back surgery and while still a challenge I was pretty much able to go whenever I wanted.  However I did not get there as much as I planned as it just seemed there were many nice days when I was busy and days when I could go that the weather did not cooperate.  I will try and make up for that in September and October as semi-retirement allows for a bit more flexibility.

What has been a surprise is the cool and comfortable weather that greeted kids as they headed back to school…something that is expected to continue.  There was nothing worse than starting the school year with hot and humid conditions but so far this September has been really nice.  Of course don’t be surprised if that changes before the month is over.

The transition from summer to pre-fall is always tougher when you live in an area like ours because lifestyles are very different.  One day you are a lifeguard and the next day a teacher…of course the same is true for parents.  One day you’re taking three kids to the beach and the next finds to getting three kids off to school at different times.

Bottom line…hope you had a good summer because it’s over.

Why Beach Tags Should Never Be Allowed In New Jersey

Plus why you might be part of the reason badges may never go away.
