Two big areas to address when considering retirement is "cost of living" and "affordable housing". It is not always easy to find both together in one place. In a recent article by Travel + Leisure, they focused on the best small town in the Garden State for retirement based on "cost of living" and "affordable housing".

"Americans are on the move post-retirement. According to a 2023 study, over 338,000 seniors relocated after they left the workforce, an increase of 44 percent compared to 2022. And while New Jersey may not have Florida’s weather, the Garden State has much to offer to those 65 and over, especially if you are looking for a quaint and affordable place to spend your golden years with plenty of outdoor recreation and a large senior population."
According to Travel + Leisure, The choice, selected by GoBankingRates.com, for New Jersey for the best small town to retire in based on cost of living and affordable housing, is located in Atlantic County. Mays Landing made the top of the list for the Garden State.
Mays Landing scored well in the ratings from GoBankingRates.com "The company estimates that the average monthly total cost of living there is $1,828, and the average monthly mortgage cost is $1,978, about $200 less than the national average."
Mays Landing is conveniently located near some great areas of the Jersey Shore. Mays Landing is close to beaches, boardwalks, and Atlantic City. In addition, there are three public golf courses in the area.
