A New Jersey Restaurant Has Made A Nationally Ranked Dish Critics Love!
A New Jersey Chef and her daughter have made a very impressive cooking list for their art of cooking in "Bangladeshi-style." Bangladesh is a country in South Asia. It sits just east of India, shares a small border with Myanmar, and has the Bay of Bengal along its southern coast. It’s known for its rivers, flat green landscape, and a very large population packed into a relatively small area.

Bangladeshi-style cooking is simple, flavorful food made with everyday ingredients and a lot of care. Meals usually start with onions, garlic, ginger, and spices, then come together with rice, vegetables, fish, or meat. The flavors are warm and a little spicy, but not overwhelming, and everything is meant to be filling and comforting.
You won't have to go far, though, to enjoy this delicious type of cooking because a restaurant in Jersey City, New Jersey, has one of the best in the nation for you to try.
According to a Patch article, "A James Beard-nominated chef who owns a small Jersey City restaurant with her daughter — and grows her vegetables out back — has created a dish tasty enough that it just made a national list."
The article added "the small Bangladeshi restaurant Korai Kitchen — run by chef Nur-E Gulshan Rahman and her daughter — made the New York Times' "23 Best Dishes In America" list on Wednesday." This is high honors, and they were the only restaurant in New Jersey to do so."
The dish is called Lau Chingri. They describe this dish as a light, comforting Bangladeshi dish made with bottle gourd (called lau) and shrimp. The gourd is soft and mildly sweet, and it’s gently cooked with garlic, onions, and a few simple spices so it doesn’t overpower the shrimp. The shrimp add a rich, savory flavor, while the dish stays fresh and easy to eat. It’s usually served with plain rice and is loved for being simple, healthy, and full of home-style flavor.
Put this on my list of places to go this year and sample this nationally ranked dish made right here in New Jersey.
