Until yesterday it had been 59 days since I last delivered a Hometown View and I wish I could tell you I was away on the vacation of a lifetime.  Unfortunately the time off was spent mostly recovering from a second spine surgery in 14 months which was necessary because the original procedure done in New York failed me.

The July procedure was done by Dr. Keith Rinkus who is affiliated with Orthocenter in Monmouth County and performed at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank.  I am happy to report that it’s clear to me this surgery has me headed in the right direction although if you see me you might question that.  I am able to stand almost straight up for the first time in years but it’s somewhat limited at times as is my ability to walk and stand.  The hiccup is that over the past few months I have developed considerable pain in my right hip near my groin area. Two cortisone shots only gave me a few days relief and I have a consultation at the end of the month for hip replacement which appears the only fix in this case.

So combine the hip and back along with neuropathy in my left foot from that earlier spine surgery and you have a mess.  However with incredible support from my wife Jane I am focused on getting fixed up, it may take some time but I’ll get there.

By the way I did get to the beach three times in late August and early September and it reminded me that it’s truly my happy place.
