It was a sad, sad day in America, one that changed our country forever. Now, on the 25th anniversary of 9/11, a powerful story about hope, kindness, and humanity is coming to Holmdel.

Come From Away opens September 11, 2026, at Bell Theater at Bell Works in Holmdel.

The Tony Award-winning musical tells the lesser-known story of what happened when 38 inbound airplanes carrying approximately 7,000 passengers were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland, following the attacks on September 11th, 2001.

The people of Gander and the surrounding towns opened their homes and their hearts to thousands of strangers during an incredibly difficult time.

A Story of Hope and Humanity

Every character in Come From Away is based on a real person who either lived in Gander or was among those diverted there on 9/11.

The show shares stories of friendship, compassion, love, and unexpected connections during one of the darkest moments in American history.

Despite the emotional subject, the musical also has heart, warmth, and plenty of humorous moments.

Special Community 9/11 Observance in Holmdel

The evening before opening night, Thursday, September 10th, at 5 p.m., Bell Works and the Axelrod Performing Arts Center will co-host a special community observance marking the 25th anniversary of September 11th.

The free event will take place in the Main Atrium at Bell Works and will bring together residents, community leaders, and elected officials for remembrance and reflection.

The observance will honor local residents who lost their lives in the attacks with a special Reading of the Names and will also recognize first responders and rescue and recovery workers.

Special musical performances will include tenor David Smolokoff and the Monmouth Civic Chorus, directed by Kevin Vondrak.
