🚔 Chicago man arrested in Lakehurst for stolen gun out of Alabama

🚔 The driver was pulled over and found to be DWI

🚔 Police in the Ocean County borough then found a gun


Lakehurst Police said they arrested a Chicago man who was driving under the influence of alcohol and allegedly in possession of a stolen gun out of Alabama.

Andrew L. Colvin Jr., 56, was pulled over in a Buick sedan around 1:34 am on Monday morning over the West Lake section of the borough after leaving the Express Inn Motel.

Police said they pulled Colvin over for committing several traffic violations along Route 70 and when they approached him, he was determined to have been driving under the influence of alcohol.

Then, police searched the vehicle and found a loaded 9-mm handgun on the floor by the back seat and after running the serial number through the NCIC database, officers learned the gun was stolen out of Alabama.

In addition to illegally having a gun in New Jersey, police said Colvin Jr. is a convicted felon and not allowed to have a gun.

He was brought back to police headquarters for processing and then over to the Ocean County Jail.

In all, Colvin Jr. was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, Certain person not to possess a weapon, Receiving stolen property, Taking vehicle without consent of the owner, Driving while intoxicated, Reckless Driving, Failure to maintain lane of travel, Delaying traffic, and being an Unlicensed driver.
