Yankees Open The Playoffs with an Impressive Win!

The Yankees got off to a great postseason start Tuesday night, and they did it against one of their biggest rivals.

The Yankees jumped all over the Boston Red Sox in Game One of the American League Wild Card Series, winning 9-0 at Yankee Stadium.

The big story was the pitching. Cam Schlittler was terrific in his first postseason start, keeping Boston off the scoreboard while striking out 10 batters. He gave the Yankees more than six strong innings and set the tone right from the beginning.

Ben Rice had a night he won’t soon forget. Rice went 4-for-5, hit two home runs and drove in six runs. His grand slam late in the game put the Yankees up big and had the crowd at Yankee Stadium celebrating.

And the Yankees did all of this without Aaron Judge, who wasn’t on the postseason roster because of a calf injury.

That’s probably one of the most encouraging things for Yankee fans. The Yankees got contributions from up and down the lineup, including three hits from rookie George Lombard Jr. in his postseason debut.

Now the Yankees have a 1-0 series lead, and Boston has to win Game Two to keep its season alive.

It’s only one game, but if you’re a Yankees fan, you have to like the way this one started. Great pitching, plenty of offense, and a shutout against Boston.
