Are Big Shake-Ups With 7-11 Stores Going To Affect New Jersey Stores?
It’s kind of funny—7-Eleven started out way back in 1927 in Dallas just selling basics like milk, bread, and ice. Nothing fancy, just stuff people needed, especially outside normal store hours.

By 1946, they named it 7-Eleven because they were open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.—which back then felt huge. Eventually, they went full 24/7, and the rest is history. Now it’s that go-to spot we all know… whether it’s late-night snacks, coffee, or one of those quick “I forgot this” runs.

What's Going On With 7-11 Stores In New Jersey?
According to a recent Patch report, "The parent company of 7-Eleven plans to close 645 convenience stores across North America, potentially including some in New Jersey, in 2026 as part of a broader effort to streamline operations and revamp its business model. Japan-based Seven & I Holdings disclosed the planned closures in a recent earnings report."
Did you know there are 366 7-11 Convenience stores in the Garden State? That's a lot of franchises around New Jersey. We have one in our town, do you? We have one right across the street from our Townsquare Shore offices here in Downtown Toms River.
According to Patch, "The company did not disclose what stores would be closed, but said some will be converted into wholesale fuel sites, which are not counted among its traditional convenience stores. Despite the closures, 7-Eleven expects to open more than 200 new stores during the same period, signaling a continued push to reshape its footprint rather than shrink outright."
Maybe head over for a Slurpee today, they are famous at 7-11.
