When you make your bed, are you familiar with the top sheet?

You have a sheet on your mattress, then the top sheet and then the comforter.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the latest divide in our nation revolves all around the flat top sheet.

*Moment to process that now we are even arguing about our beds*

Wow, of all things.

On average, people who are 40 years old and above tend to use the flat top sheet because, "it’s more hygienic, more proper, just more correct to use one."

I mean, why else would a top sheet be included in bedding sets?

Millennials and Gen Zers, on average, seem to skip the flat top sheet all together, "it’s more efficient to skip it, and if you change your duvet cover regularly it’s just as clean," according to Wall Street Journal.

FYI: A lot of people in Europe only use a duvet cover so it is not unheard of.

I personally don't use a flat top sheet. It is just another thing to wash, another step to making the bed and seems more decorative than functional.

If you talk to your typical Millennial or Gen Zer these days, people are struggling.

I barely have time to pick out a pair of matching socks in the morning, let alone taking the time for a piece of material that no one really needs.

I will say that I have asked a lot of people in our building since reading this article and the reactions were pretty mixed.

"I use one because when I get hot, I need a thinner layer," said Andria of Townsquare Media. "My 8-year-old daughter, however, will kick it off in her sleep even if I try to put it on her."

"I do not use a top sheet because it's too much work," said Vince of Townsquare Media who is older than most with this rationale. But he isn't alone.

Shannon Holly of our Jersey Shore Morning Show does not use a top sheet because her husband isn't the best at sharing covers. She has her own duvet and so does her husband. Adding a sheet in there would just be too much.

Do you use a flat top sheet? Can you email me at Nicole.Murray@townsquaremedia.com and let me know because I am curious!?

But then again, if one of us wins that $1.9 billion Powerball jackpot, I will have a top sheet all day because I won't have to make my own bed ever again.

A girl can dream.
