What makes a hotel genuinely exceptional?

Condé Nast Traveler says it's really a bunch of basics that all come together.

A friendly and helpful staff will improve the experience. This applies to hotels or just about any business.

A big one for me is the cleanliness of the room. Nothing is worse than settling into a room at a friendly establishment, only to find that the sheets are dirty or the bathroom hasn't been cleaned well.

You know what they say—location, location, location. If a beautiful hotel has an incredible backdrop, that will make the stay more enjoyable.

Convenience is key. You want to ensure your hotel has essential amenities like free Wi-Fi, a fitness center, or an on-site restaurant. A rooftop bar never hurt.

Have you ever stayed at a hotel where the staff knows your name the entire stay? Personal touches like that go a long way.

Finally, value. We want to make sure that we get what we pay for when we spend our hard-earned money.

Have you ever been to Peapack, New Jersey?

Peapack is in the Somerset Hills region of northern Somerset County. According to Esquire, Peapack is home to one of the best hotels in the world.

Welcome to Pendry Natirar

Brady Lanmann from Esquire wrote:

Did I expect my favorite hotel stay of the year to be in I-don’t-know-where New Jersey? (Peapack, formally.) Absolutely not. Am I still thinking about it? All the time. Perched on top of a towering hill, the hotel grounds boast a gorgeous wellness spa, a cozy restaurant, and a lobby that looks like it belongs somewhere in the Biltmore.
The kicker: Pendry Natirar is fueled by the sprawling farm on the property, which you can tour, and where you can say hi to the chickens and pick up goodies. (I’m still using the honey they gave me.) It all makes for an intimate, Hudson-esque adventure—but without the hike upstate.

Rooms start at $650.
