These Are Three Of The Most Bone-Chilling New Jersey Urban Legends

We live in a state where a lot of things scare us. We’re afraid of taxes, traffic, and a litany of issues on a daily basis. But this handful of New Jersey urban legends are the things nightmares are made of.

We only scratched the surface of Garden State urban legends, and we still may not sleep for a week. We picked three urban legends we found at Only In Your State, and we wanted to pass them along to you, just in case you’ve been getting a good night’s sleep lately.

We start in Bernard’s Township at a lovely little spot called The Devil’s Tree. Legend has it that if you disrespect the tree, bad things will happen to you. It is also said that even snow is affected by The Devil’s Tree. Any flakes that fall on or near it are said to melt immediately, no matter how cold it is. Local authorities had to put a chain link fence around it due to vandalism.

Have you ever heard of the Toms River terror? Apparently, a couple bought a house in town, but after a week of doors opening and shutting, whispering sounds in the vents, and chain scraping sounds, the family took off. Before they did, they spoke with a reporter who captured what some say is the voice of a ghost that sounded like a child while taping the interview.

Can you take one more? This one combines a ghost, the mob, and go-go dancers. The former gentleman’s club Liquid Assets, was reportedly haunted by the ghost of a mob hit man named “Mad Dog”. The club tried to use the notoriety to its advantage by claiming to be North America’s only haunted go-go bar.

I am not the kind of guy who likes to tempt fate, so for me, it’s not about believing these legends or not. It’s about respecting them until somebody else proves them to be untrue.
