Old Ocean County, NJ School Could Be Site Of A Brand New Skate Park
If I were a kid, this would be the best news I could ever hear; we're turning your school into a skatepark.
Sweet!
In middle school I loved skateboarding.
I was not good at it by any means, but it was fun, I especially loved going to the skate park in Sea Isle City a few times each year.
Getting to try my hand at the half pipe, vert ramps, and grind rails always ended with a skinned knee but it was fun either way.
I also met a lot of really nice people who would try to help improve my skills.
Well, Thursday night according to Shorebeat Seaside Park officials met to try and decide the fate of the former Seaside Park Elementary School Playground.
One of the options that were floated out there was a skatepark.
I'm an advocate for having more skate parks available to kids, they're a great place for kids to have fun and socialize as well as get some exercise and try out new tricks.
On top of that, it keeps kids off the streets.
Literally.
If you can't practice skating at a skate park, more often than not kids will skateboard in the streets and that could be a potentially dangerous spot!
In addition, Shorebeat reports another idea that was floated out there for the former playground was to erect a pickleball court.
There's already a pickleball court in Lavallette, so having one on the other side of the island might be nice!
The big pro to the pickleball court is that it would be beneficial to a larger number of people of all age groups.
My grandpa, for example, is in his 80's but loves pickleball. Skateboarding, not so much!
If not a skate park, and not a pickleball court what would you decide to build at the site of the former playground of Seaside Park Elementary?
Either way, I'm excited about something potentially happening to benefit full-time residents such as myself.
A lot of what happens in and around Seaside Park and Seaside Heights is to benefit tourists, so to have something built that would genuinely be for the local community would be great.
