When it comes to waterfront towns that are little hidden gems, New Jersey has an abundance of them. For instance, I think where I live in Ocean Gate may be the best small town at the shore. We have a private beach, a few great little bars and restaurants, and a gorgeous mile-long boardwalk that overlooks the Toms River and Barnegat Bay. Plus, with all the community events, there's always something going on.

That being said, Avalon was recently ranked as New Jersey's best little-known waterfront town, according to Only In Your State.
What makes Avalon Jersey's best waterfront town, at least according to these travel experts, is that the town is small and located on the barrier islands, which is one of Jersey's more remote beach areas. But is it really Jersey's most little-known waterfront town?

Most people who live in Jersey are familiar with the town, and it's known as being one of the most expensive beach towns in South Jersey, next to maybe Stone Harbor.
Other Little-Known Waterfront Towns In New Jersey
When I think of little-known waterfront towns, places like the Atlantic Highlands, Sunset Beach (more of a day trip spot than a town), Mystic Island, or even Brigantine.
Honestly, any town in Jersey that sits on the water is worth a visit, so whether you agree that Avalon is New Jersey's best little waterfront town, or if you think there's another town that's better, odds are you're correct.
