Look for these NJ athletes at the Paris Olympics this summer
New Jersey has been ready — along with the rest of the world — to again cheer on our hometown Olympic athletes.
The July 26 opening ceremony was planned as a unique French outing — athletes cruising in boats down the Seine River, passing by historic Paris landmarks, NBC News reported.
Weeks ago, trials to qualify for various events at the summer games in Paris, France, were winding down.
Among them, NJ track star Athing Mu suffered a heartbreaking moment.
The Trenton native got caught up in a tight pack of runners during the 800 meter race and fell.
She was ultimately shutout from heading to the games in the event for which she won gold in Tokyo.
Another wrenching moment for an athlete from NJ happened as the track and field trials wrapped.
Nia Ali graduated from Pleasantville High School in 2006 and was a silver medalist at the 2016 Olympics in Rio in the women's 100m hurdles.
She just missed qualifying for the Paris Games in the final round of the trials, trailing by .06-seconds.
Equestrian Jessica Springsteen took a silver medal with the three-rider jumping team in Tokyo.
The daughter of rock stars, Bruce Springsteen and wife Patti Scialfa, was on the short list announced in April, but did not get picked to head to her second Olympics in Paris.
The following are more than 20 NJ athletes or with NJ roots, who have clinched spots on the U.S. roster for Paris.
