We're not even half way done with winter yet (we're only about a third of the way through as of Jan. 19) but here we go with another snow day. Fortunately, this most recent one lines up with Martin Luther King Jr. Day, meaning most kids are off from school.

So far, the winter of 2026 has certainly lived up to being one of the colder seasons we've had in a long time for New Jersey. Maybe not a record breaker, but certainly among one of the chillier ones when compared to recent winters.

And the same can be said about snow. Again, it's not that we're seeing record amounts of snowfall. But rather, it seems like more than we're used to when compared to recent winters.

Thinking about comfort foods

So this naturally got the conversation going about the best snow day meals are. The ones that are perfect for being wrapped in a blanket watching the fire burn.

And whether or not it's a homemade recipe or a classic staple from the supermarket, one thing's for sure. Those of us in New Jersey sure know how to spend a cold, snowy day indoors with those perfect comfort foods.
