Every week this fall, Jersey Mike’s and Shore Sports Network will be teaming up to select the Shore Conference Football Team of the Week based on its performance over the past weekend.

The Jersey Mike’s Team of the Week for Week 5 is Freehold Township, which rallied from a two-touchdown deficit and stopped a late 2-point conversion attempt to defeat Brick Memorial, 21-20, and keep its playoff hopes intact. Shore Sports Network stopped by practice on Tuesday to present the Patriots and head coach Cory Davies with a special game ball and a $500 Jersey Mike's gift card.

Freehold Township traveled to Brick Memorial's DiFabio Field last Friday for an important nondivisonal game between teams hovering near .500 and looking to remain in the playoff picture. The host Mustangs jumped out to a 14-0 halftime lead, but the Patriots rallied in the second half behind standout sophomore running back Chase Enlow and a defense that kept Brick Memorial standout quarterback Connor Dietz from taking over the game.

Midway through the third quarter, Enlow broke free for a 55-yard touchdown run that cut Brick Memorial's lead in half. At 9:45 of the fourth quarter, sophomore quarterback Nick Cardone connected with junior wide receiver Shawn Corchado for a 3-yard touchdown to tie the score at 14. Freehold Township then took a 21-14 lead when Enlow scored on a 6-yard run with 3:41 left in the game.

The work was not done, however, because Brick Memorial drove inside the Freehold Township 10-yard line and scored on a 5-yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Kevin Andrews with under a minute on the clock. The Mustangs elected to go for the 2-point conversion, which would have given them the lead if successful, but Freehold Township stopped Dietz in the backfield and held on for the dramatic victory.

Enlow ran for 190 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries and Corchado caught eight passes for 80 yards and a touchdown. Cardone went 8-for-8 for 80 yards and a touchdown splitting time with junior quarterback Mark Augello, who went 7-for-14 for 54 yards through the air.

On defense, senior linebacker Nick Benjamino made a team-leading 13 tackles, one sack, and a forced fumble while senior linebacker John Meehan had six tackles, a sack, and two tackles for loss. Senior edge Jayden Holmes-Cotter also had two tackles for loss, junior defensive back Nick Carnevale had an interception, and senior linebacker Jacob Nastarowicz recovered a fumble.

The win got Freehold Township back to a .500 record at 3-3 and kept the Patriots in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 5 playoff race. They are currently 14th in the section with the top 16 teams qualifying for the postseason.

The Patriots have alternated wins and losses each week this season and will try to break that trend in Week 6 when they play for "The Duke" against rival Freehold Boro on Friday night.
