NJSIAA Tournament

Sectional Championship

Central Jersey Group II

(2) Manasquan 60, (1) South River 52

Junior Ryan Frauenheim scored 16 of his game-high 20 points in the first half and the rest of the Warriors (26-4) stepped up their games in the second half to close out a sectional championship win over the Rams (26-4) -- Manasquan's fourth straight sectional championship.

Tuesday marked the first time Manasquan won a sectional championship game away from its home gym since winning at a neutral site in 2009 and the first time ever the Warriors have won a true road game in the sectional final round.

South River surged in front, 26-25, late in the second quarter, but Frauenheim hit three-pointers on consecutive possessions to close out the half with Manasquan leading, 31-26.

Frauenheim also added four rebounds and four assists for Manasquan, while sophomore teammate Darius Adams pitched in 15 points, five rebounds and five assists in the win.

Junior Alex Konov came off the bench to score nine points on three three-pointers, including a big hit to stretch Manasquan's lead to 52-44 with just under three minutes to play.

Sophomore Griffin Linstra went scoreless in the first half, but emerged with eight points after halftime while also hauling in a game-high 12 rebounds. Linstra and seniors Quinn Peters and Jack Dettlinger (four points each) helped Manasquan control the glass, with five of Peters's six rebounds coming on the offensive glass and Dettlinger pulling in seven boards.

Manasquan moves on to Thursday's Group II championship game and will take on South Jersey champion Middle Township, with the Warriors seeking their second ever trip to the NJSIAA Group Final -- the last of which came in 2004 and ended with a loss to Raritan.

NJSIAA Tournament

Sectional Championship

Central Jersey Group I

(1) Eagle Academy 43, (2) Shore 39

Senior Asan Jones rolled the dice by taking a shot off an offensive rebound with five seconds left and it went in, sealing the first ever sectional championship for the Eagles (25-5) at the expense of the Blue Devils (21-6).

Shore played from behind throughout the second half, but cut Eagle Academy's lead to one four different times in the fourth quarter, including at 40-39 with eight seconds left on a pair of three throws by senior Brett Sweeney.

Senior Marcus Blount hit his first free throw with 6.2 seconds and after missing the second, Jones grabbed the offensive rebound in traffic. Instead of pulling the ball out, Jones went right back up with a shot attempt as his fell to the ground and it dropped with the final seconds ticking away.

Jones led a balanced Eagle Academy offense with 11 points, while Blount and classmate Tae'Jean Wilson each finished with 10. Wilson scored all of his points in the first half, including a three-pointer at the halftime buzzer that gave the Eagles a 20-17 lead -- one they would not give back.

Senior Choice Dousuah also scored nine points and senior Tymir Ashford had the other three, which came on a clutch, corner three-pointer that extended Eagle's lead to 34-29 with five minutes left in the game.

Junior Alex George led Shore with a game-high 16 points to go with five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Senior Liam Gajewski added 11 points and six rebounds, with the two top scorers combining for three big baskets down the stretch of the fourth quarter. George converted two drives to the basket that cut Shore's deficit to one -- once at 34-33 and again at 36-35 -- and Gajewski finishes off a drive into the paint that pulled the Blue Devils within 38-37 with just over a minute to go.

Senior Donovan Hughes also pitched in eight points and five rebounds for Shore.

Eagle Academy moves on to face South Jersey champion Woodbury in the Group I semifinals Wednesday at Brick Memorial High School, with tip-off scheduled for 5 p.m.

Sectional Semifinals

South Jersey Non-Public B

(1) St. Rose 87, (4) St. Joseph Hammonton 52

Juniors Matt Hodge and Gio Panzini combined for 27 of St. Rose's 31 points in the first quarter and the Purple Roses (23-4) rode a torrid start to the game to a rout of the Wildcats (15-13).

Hodge scored 17 of his game-high 24 points in the first quarter, while also adding 10 rebounds and five assists. Panzini, meanwhile, scored 17 of his 20 points in the first half and also pitched in seven rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocked shots in the win.

Sophomore Peter Mauro added 14 points and freshman Jayden Hodge scored nine of his 12 points during the third quarter for St. Rose, which will take on Bishop Eustace Wednesday in the South Jersey Non-Public B championship game at Lenape High School.

(2) Bishop Eustace 48, (3) Ranney 44 (OT)

Senior Joe Callahan scored five of his 10 points in the fourth quarter and overtime and the Crusaders (18-9) outlasted the Panthers (17-11) through four additional minutes, earning a trip to Lenape Wednesday for the sectional final against top-seeded St. Rose.

Senior Jahlil Bethea gave Ranney a 39-37 lead on a foul-line jumper with 2:50 left before Callahan scored the tying basket with 2:12 remaining.

The two teams went scoreless over the remainder of the fourth quarter and Ian Glassmacher and Bethea traded baskets to start overtime, this time with Glassmacher opening the scoring with a putback and Bethea answering to tie it at 41-41.

Tommy Semiraglo gave Bishop Eustace the lead with a pair of free throws and Callahan put the game on ice by making 3-of-4 from the line in the final minute of overtime.

Bethea led Ranney with 17 points, senior Isaac Hester scored 14 and junior Drew Buck contributed nine points and four steals to lead Ranney.
